Bardstown Double Barreled Discovery Series #13

Step into a bold new chapter of the Bardstown Discovery line with Double Barreled #13, a limited-release expression that pushes the series’ boundary by introducing secondary barrel finishing. This is the first time Bardstown has applied a double-barrel technique in their Discovery line—designed for complexity, depth, and intrigue.

Blend & Aging

  • Composed of a blend of four Kentucky straight bourbons with varying age profiles and mash bills:
     • 45%: 9-year (74% corn, 18% rye, 8% malted barley)
     • 22%: 9-year (78% corn, 10% rye, 12% malted barley)
     • 20%: 15-year (75% corn, 13% rye, 12% malted barley)
     • 13%: 8-year (70% corn, 21% rye, 9% malted barley)

  • After initial maturation, the blend is split for a secondary finishing:
     • ~60% goes into new American white oak barrels
     • ~40% into Hungarian oak barrels

  • The two lots are then recombined (married) and bottled at 110.8 proof (55.4% ABV).

Color & Appearance
Rich amber-copper with deep golden undertones—bold and visually striking in the glass.

Tasting Profile
👃 Nose: Predominantly oak and wood spice, paired with orange peel, brown sugar, cinnamon, meringue, and cornbread.
👅 Palate: Intense, layered, and silky. Think banana cream pie, raisin, cherry skin, vanilla cake, apricot, caramel apple, plus dark spice and gentle tannin from the wood influence.
🪶 Finish: Medium to long. Echoes of toasted oak, cherry, hazelnut, ash, tobacco, maple syrup, custard, and a hint of fruit linger as the oak tannins settle.

Why It’s Special

  • It’s the first double-barreled edition in Bardstown’s Discovery series—offering a new dimension of texture and wood interplay.

  • The dual barrel treatment (American & Hungarian oak) adds nuance, balancing classic bourbon warmth with darker, spiced wood influences.

  • With its bold proof, rich blend, and novel approach, it’s ideal for both enthusiasts and collectors looking for a standout expression.

Serving Suggestions

  • Best enjoyed neat to allow the complexity to shine.

  • Use a tulip or Glencairn-style glass to capture the nose.

  • A single drop of water or a large ice cube may unlock deeper baking spice and dark fruit notes.

  • Pair with dark chocolate, charred nuts, or smoked meats for a complementary tasting experience.
