Agave tequila is more than just a drink. It’s a rich and unforgettable experience that captures the essence of tradition, skill, and bold taste.

At The Liquor Bros, we're passionate about bringing you the finest agave tequilas on the market, whether you're marking a celebration or you're simply in the mood for something extraordinary.

What Makes Agave Tequila So Special?

Like Mezcal, what makes this tequila so exceptional is the agave plants it's made from - the blue weber agave in particular.

These special plants are grown in rich volcanic soil in Jalisco, Mexico, and take several years to mature in the warm climate. This prolonged maturation process results in the complex sugars that give Mexican tequila its signature earthy flavors and subtle herbal notes.

Is Tequila Better With Agave?

Tequila is almost always better with agave, especially when it's made from 100% blue agave. This ensures a cleaner, more authentic flavor and a higher quality spirit overall. And, not to worry, the blue color is not included.

Tequilas that are mixed with additives tend to have a harsher taste and lack the smoothness that allows you to enjoy them neat. In contrast, 100% agave tequilas, like blanco varieties, shine with crisp, natural notes, making them ideal for sipping neat or mixing into cocktails.

How Is Agave Tequila Produced?

Agave tequila is produced using a time-honored process. In fact, it dates back to Aztec history!

It all starts with harvesting mature blue agave plants. The piña, which is the heart of the plant, is then cooked to break down the complex sugars and release the sweet juice.

The juice is then fermented, allowing natural yeasts to convert the sugars into alcohol. Once fermented, the liquid is distilled (usually twice), completing the smooth, high-quality spirit ready to be enjoyed straight or on the rocks.

How Do You Drink 100% Agave Tequila?

Tequila connoisseurs know that 100% agave tequila is best enjoyed neat, which means no ice or mixers. However, with an alcohol content of around 40%, it also shines in cocktails like margaritas, where bartenders pair it with fresh lime, crushed ice, and a salted rim for a refreshing twist.

How Do You Know If Tequila Is 100% Agave?

Checking the label on the bottle is the easiest way to know if a tequila is 100% agave. It should clearly state "100% de agave" or "100% agave azul", which means it's made entirely from the blue agave plant without any added sugars or fillers.

If the label doesn't say this, it's most likely mixto, which means it contains only 51% agave, and the rest is made up of other sugars.

What Is the Best Agave Tequila on the Market?

The best agave tequila depends on whether you enjoy blanco, reposado, añejo, or silver varieties. Highly reviewed options like Fortaleza Blanco and Tequila Ocho Plata are two of the top unaged blanco tequilas that are best for mixing. Gran Orendain Reposado and Clase Azul Reposado are excellent reposados, while G4 Añejo and 4 Copas Añejo are perfect if you enjoy a more aged flavor.
