The Tequila Collection
By far the most well-known of Clase Azul's lineup is its tequila collection, which is crafted from the finest blue Weber agave in the highlands of Jalisco.
Clase Azul tequila is made by harvesting the mature agave piñas (or cores) of the plants. These piñas are then slow-cooked in masonry ovens to extract the sweet nectar that gives the tequila its signature flavor.
After the extraction process, the agave is fermented with patented yeast before the liquid goes through a double distillation process in copper pot stills. This is what helps ensure a refined and smooth profile.
Clase Azul's tequila range also goes through different aging processes to suit any palate and any occasion (including Cinco de Mayo). The range includes:
-
Clase Azul Plata: This unaged tequila really captures the essence of fresh agave. It has fresh herbal notes that combine with the flavors of green apple and citrus, making it perfect for sipping or mixing in cocktails.
-
Clase Azul Reposado Tequila: By far the most popular in the collection, this tequila is a Clase Azul staple. Clase Azul Tequila Reposado is beautifully aged in American whiskey casks, creating a rich harmony of flavors. It has notes of agave nectar, toasted wood, orange peel, and cloves. It also has a unique hazelnut and bittersweet chocolate finish, which is undeniably smooth.
-
Clase Azul Añejo: This tequila is aged for two years in American whiskey barrels and has a much deeper complexity. With a rich copper color, it has an intense aroma of oak, orange marmalade, hazelnut, and other spices. These include cinnamon and clove to create a warm and luxurious experience.
-
Clase Azul Gold: Clase Azul Gold is a gorgeous mix of two different tequilas: Clase Azul Plata and an eight-year-old extra añejo. The añejo is aged in first-use French oak casks. The combination of aged and unaged tequilas creates a delicious blend of fresh agave and the mature complexity that comes with barrel aging, giving it layers of flavor that include apple, apricot, and almond.
-
Clase Azul Ultra: This premium tequila is the pinnacle of the Clase Azul collection. It's an extra añejo that is masterfully aged five years and undergoes a unique maturation process. This process involves spending time in American whiskey casks before being finished in a combination of sherry casks. The result is a taste that includes rich spices, cacao, and dried fruit.
The Mezcal Collection
While Clase Azul is famous for its tequila, Clase Azul mezcal is also well-known for its craftsmanship and complexity. These mezcals are made using a variety of agaves and traditional methods, giving each a unique flavor that you won't find anywhere else.
-
Clase Azul Mezcal Durango: When comparing Clase Azul's tequila vs mezcal, the use of cenizo agave in the mezcal is what makes it stand out. This gives it a more full and rich taste with earthy, herbal notes and slight hints of charred agave and lemon peel.
-
Clase Azul Mezcal Guerrero: Made from papalote agave, this mezcal has a lighter and fresher taste. It has aromas of grapefruit, fresh wood, peanuts, and hints of rosemary, while the taste is a gentle balance of seaweed, lemon, and tobacco.
-
Clase Azul Mezcal San Luis Potosí: This mezcal is a recognized icon for spirit collectors and enthusiasts. It has a nose of cooked agave that is beautifully balanced with green chile, caramel, freshly cut grass, and sweet fruit. And the taste leaves nothing to be desired, with delicious layers of caramel, vanilla, cloves, lime zest, and a spiced aftertaste.
Clase Azul's Decanters
Clase Azul's decanters are just as important as the spirits they contain. Each ceramic bottle is hand-painted by skilled Mexican artisans to create unique works of art. The attention to detail on each bottle is a testament to Mexico, Mexican tradition, and Clase Azul's commitment to blending luxury and incredible craftsmanship.
